One of Ghana’s most recognized and successful gospel artistes, Sonnie Badu, has promised to support newly converted Highlife Artiste Yaw Siki, who now makes a living from offertory by preaching on buses.

Yaw Siki’s touching story of a budding hiplife musician, which took a sudden turn after he survived a near-fatal accident in 2013, has touched the heart of Sonnie Badu, hence his decision to support him.

Sonnie Badu made the announcement on his Instagram page after Yaw Siki’s interview with Accra-based Joy TV, during which he revealed how he was living on family support and offerings he gets from preaching on buses and in some communities in the Tema Metropolis where he lives.

I would like our ministry to sponsor him for the next few years .. It will not be easy with the decision you have made as there will be a long suffering, however we are [here] to let you know that you made the right decision .. #yawsiki”

Sonnie Badu is convinced that Yaw Siki’s new path is challenging and hence needs encouragement to succeed.

Yaw told Joy TV, “I was praying last year in December and then the spirit just prophesied through my own self that I should preach in communities 7,8,9 and 10 (all in Tema) this year.” With my bills, my family supports me and then when I preach, people give [me money], when I preach I do not ask but when I finish and some people call me, oh take this, take that and all with family support I am able to pay bills.”

“Last year December, I [preached] at the Motorway Roundabout and a man gave me GHc500. That’s the highest I have received so far. I preach in the Trotros (Commercial buses). I preach in between lanes in the communities and you see that people will not give you that big amount for preaching to them but I don’t mind,” Yaw concluded.

Yaw Siki’s Hiplife career

Yaw Siki’s hiplife career begun to witness a steady rise, when he released one of his popular songs “Wope Dodo” in 2011.

But a ghastly accident in August 2013 on the Accra-Tema Motorway changed his life story or perhaps brought him in line with his real destiny.

After coming close to death in a crash that saw him hospitalized for months with near-death injuries, Yaw came to a conclusion that God’s grace miraculously saved him, hence his decision to surrender his life to Jesus Christ.

In a July 2014 interview with Citi FM’s Jessica Opare Saforo on Traffic Avenue where he shared his testimony of healing and salvation, Yaw said “The next time my eyes open slightly, I was in so much pain and my friend was beside me consoling me. The next time I woke up I was feeling a bit cool, but when I finally got my eyes opened and the pains started resurfacing I noticed I had been involved in an accident. The next thought that occurred to me was I could have died yesterday and if I died, was I ready to meet my maker, that was when I realized I need to change,” he added.

Siki did not let go his music career, but has decided to sing gospel to honour his maker and change lives. He has released gospel tracks such as ‘Thank You’, ‘Ohene’ [King] and ‘Medi Wekyi'[I will follow you].

After an ailment that saw him lay on his back for three months without bathing, listen below one of Siki’s gospel track Med Wekyi [I will follow you].

In the song, Yaw Siki who says God has healed him, rescued him from drug addiction and sexual immorality, praises Him and promises to follow and obey Him at all times.
