{"id":189241,"date":"2016-02-12T11:58:53","date_gmt":"2016-02-12T11:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=189241"},"modified":"2016-02-12T11:58:53","modified_gmt":"2016-02-12T11:58:53","slug":"hanna-tetteh-to-face-parliament-over-gitmo-two","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/02\/hanna-tetteh-to-face-parliament-over-gitmo-two\/","title":{"rendered":"Hanna Tetteh to face Parliament over Gitmo two"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just when Ghanaians had almost forgotten about the hosting of two former Guantanamo Bay detainees in the country from the United States, Parliament is scheduled to query the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh, in\u00a0a closed sitting of MPs on Friday, February 19, 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;kMKYtzJVaEnE3TKiTS76mmLTFBoCxT9X&#8221;]A Member of Parliament\u2019s Committee on Defence and Interior, Major Derrick Oduro, had\u00a0indicated to <strong>Citi News <\/strong>that<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>he was going to urge his colleagues to invite and question Foreign Affairs and Interior Ministers over the Guantanamo detainee\u2019s brouhaha.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Major Derrick Oduro, Parliament was at a loss as to why the government took the decision\u00a0without recourse to the house\u00a0and will demand answers from the sector ministers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Kofi Osei Ameyaw, also filed an urgent question to compel the Foreign Affairs Minister to clarify certain aspects of the deal with the United States government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Government\u2019s decision to accept the two former terror suspects has received widespread condemnation with critics saying the presence of the two, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby pose a security threat to the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The US government insists <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/01\/08\/ex-guantanamo-detainees-pose-no-security-threat-us-embassy-3\/\">the two former detainees pose minimal risk<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to Ghana&#8217;s national security but many say\u00a0the explanation for accepting the two former terror suspects from the US is\u00a0not been convincing enough.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just when Ghanaians had almost forgotten about the hosting of two former Guantanamo Bay detainees in the country from the United States, Parliament is scheduled to query the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh, in\u00a0a closed sitting of MPs on Friday, February 19, 2016.
