He said the arrest serves as a source of respite to them and commended the Ghana Police service for their swift intervention on the matter.

“Even though we don’t have the details, I think that we must applaud the Police for the way they conducted and handled the investigation at this point. That somebody has been arrested is a source of respite to us. I’m reliably informed that the suspect has confessed to the police that he committed the dastardly act, so let’s wait for more information as the police continue to conduct their investigation into the matter,” Obiri-Boahen noted.

The stabbing

The MP was killed by unknown assailants at his residence at Shiashi in Accra, where he lived with his family.

Some neighbours of the late MP had told Citi News they heard about a struggle between the MP and his attackers, which forced them out of their homes only to find out that he had been killed.

They claimed to have seen a ladder behind the late MP’s bedroom, which they suspect was used by the assailants to access his room where he was killed and left in a pool of blood.

According to them, they saw a man run out of the house but he could not use the main entrance because they had then called in the police who were stationed at the gate waiting to enter.

Investigations into the gruesome killing of the MP began on Tuesday morning, after his demise at dawn that same day.

Efforts to capture the suspect intensified after the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was asked to take over the investigations.

The Police earlier invited six persons for questioning after which they were all discharged except the security man.

The Police earlier announced a GHc10,000 reward for anyone who volunteers information leading to the arrest of the killer.
