The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all of its offices across the country to fly flags at half-mast beginning today February 9 2016, to Monday February 15, 2016.

“This is in honour of the memory of the late Mr. Ben Kwaw, NPP acting Western Regional Chairman, and the late Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, NPP Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North,” a statement signed by acting party chairman, Freddie Blay stated.

NPP has suffered two major blows in less 24 hours.

First was the acting Western Regional Chairman of the NPP, Ben Kwah who died on Monday morning after a short illness.

[contextly_sidebar id=”majpwvYqBCo9VVBF0EL9o4IyW0n0ij39″]Second was the NPP MP, JB Danquah who was stabbed to death on Tuesday dawn at his residence at Shiashi, where he lived with his family.

Meanwhile the Police have so far picked up five persons from the MP’s residence for questioning in a bid to unravel the truth.

Though the Police say they cannot immediately confirm the reason for the killing, the NPP MP for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea says he suspects “contract killing.”

Speaking after a visit to the residence of the late MP, Mr. Atta Akyea said, “It should be obvious to everybody that this is contract killing. We trust that very soon, it will come to the fore as to who is responsible for this dastardly act of murder.”

The statement from the NPP acting chair further expressed the party’s “deepest condolences to the families of these two distinguished sons of our Great Party, and we also call on all party faithful to remain calm in these trying moments.”

He further urged the Police to swiftly investigate the death of the MP “so that the perpetrators of this horrible crime will be made to face the full rigours of the law.”

Freddie Blay also called on NPP members to desist from making baseless speculations over the death of their patriot.

“We call on all to avoid any form of unnecessary and possibly harmful speculation at this time. We also call on the government, in the light of a long list of such incidents in recent times, to take a critical look and revise its policies and strategies towards the growing levels of insecurity and unsolved murders in the country,” Freddie Blay added.
