Leicester City\u2019s Premier League title challenge shows no sign of ending as they cast aside a clumsy Manchester City side with ease, claiming\u00a0a 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium to send them\u00a0six points clear of their rivals at the top of the table.<\/p>\n
It had been reckoned the Foxes were entering a make or break period in their season with matches against Liverpool, the Blues and Arsenal, and with six points already garnered, they\u2019re passing their test with flying colours.<\/p>\n
Robert Huth grabbed a double, which sandwiched the marvellous Riyad Mahrez\u2019s stunning second half strike, while usual suspects Ngolo Kante, Danny Drinkwater and Wes Morgan were tremendous too, before Sergio Aguero’s consolation strike.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been a dream season so far for the Foxes and it was dream start at the Etihad Stadium as they snatched the lead with just two minutes on the clock.<\/p>\n
Aleksandar Kolarov clumsily felled Mahrez on the right wing and the Algerian\u2019s free-kick was bundled in by Huth at the front post, although it looked like Martin Demichelis got the final touch.<\/p>\n
A hobbling Aguero had the home fans worried, but he eventually shook off a knock after Huth had trodden on his foot.<\/p>\n
Joe Hart had to be at his excellent best as the Foxes resisted resting on their laurels and he managed to repel Vardy and Drinkwater, who both went close.<\/p>\n
Manchester City howed brief glimpses of class as David Silva slithered through the Leicester\u2019s well organised defence but failed with his final ball, and Ranieri\u2019s well drilled side\u00a0were always a threat on the counter with Drinkwater and Kante smothering the hosts\u2019 midfield and countering at pace.<\/p>\n
Referee Anthony Taylor irked the hosts\u00a0when he only gave a free-kick as Christian Fuchs fouled Pablo Zabaleta on the edge of the penalty area, and no matter how they attempted to attack Leicester, they found their route blocked by the likes of Huth, the magnificent Morgan and a commanding Kasper Schmeichel.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Yaya Toure was having another game where he married a number of classy touches with some lethargic movement around the pitch.<\/p>\n
Before the break the heavens opened and City began to pour forward in the deluge, but no one could get on the end of Zabaleta\u2019s cross along the six-yard box, while Kolarov clattered a left-foot strike into the hoardings.<\/p>\n
After the restart a four-man Foxes charge almost got them a second but Man City were able to get a vital block in. Moments later, though, they were powerless to stop them.<\/p>\n
Kante battled and barged his way upfield before laying the ball through to Mahrez. The winger has thrilled all season and left City\u2019s defence bamboozled with a breathtaking move as he flicked the ball over Nicolas Otamendi\u2019s tackle, sent Demichelis flying the wrong way with a stepover and slammed a shot in past the wrong-footed Hart. It was Leicester City at their devastating best.<\/p>\n
Fernando then thought he\u2019d got a goal back for the hosts but Schmeichel was able to turn his free header away from danger at point-blank range.<\/p>\n
Their chances of victory, though, were over with 60 minutes played when Huth rose highest to head nod a Fuchs corner home to make it 3-0, meanwhile Vardy nearly made it four but saw his shot well stopped by Hart.<\/p>\n
The England strike later slashed a shot into the side netting as his team-mates in defence did everything in their power to deny Man City, and even Aguero couldn\u2019t find the right amount of space to send a snapshot in on Schmeichel\u2019s goal.<\/p>\n
But with three minutes left he did manage to send a header, from a Bersant Celina cross, beyond his Danish opponent.<\/p>\n
It didn\u2019t make much difference though as the final whistle handed the Foxes all three points, even if Zabaleta did hit the woodwork following some nice play.<\/p>\n
