Residents of Kwaobaah Nyanoa in the Eastern Region, whose lands were used for the construction of the Community Day Senior High School(SHS) inaugurated by President Mahama on[Thursday], are demanding their unpaid compensation from government.

[contextly_sidebar id=”0iyuCSUMXzGkpBJdfzOtaq4IXB53F1cO”]The land owners say they have not been compensated years after government acquired the lands.

They have vowed to reclaim their lands if government fails to honor its promise.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, one of the aggrieved land owners, Maxwell Arhin, said government promised to compensate them about two years ago.

“We are around the location of the school and when they came for the land about two years ago, the agreement was that they were going to compensate us. Those whose personal lands were affected and those who have cocoa farms and others; but from the time the President came in to do the ground breaking up till now, we have not heard anything from them,” Mr. Arhin lamented.

He further indicated that several meetings have already been held with the DCE for the area in their effort to e compensated.

“We have been going up and down to Adeiso that is the district capital, to hold series of meetings with the DCE but all that have proven fruitless. We heard three days ago that the President was coming down to commission the school so we decided to organise a demonstration to register our displeasure to the President.”

He revealed however that the timely intervention of the Eastern Regional Minister averted the planned demonstration.

“Actually, we nearly did that but the Eastern Regional Minister came in. It was his timely intervention that stopped us from demonstrating.”
