The canker of the Ghanaian’s poor attitude towards time, has infiltrated Ghana’s Parliament infuriating the Speaker of the house.

On Wednesday, the Speaker of the House, Edward Doe Adjaho, ranted over what he called the increasing spate of lateness among Members of Parliament.

According to the speaker, the lackadaisical attitude to time exhibited by the MPs, is affecting the business of the House.

This outburst by the Speaker follows concerns raised by some Minority MPs about the absence of the Attorney General Marrieta Brew Appiah-Oppong, in the House on Tuesday, February 2, when she was expected to lay the Witness Protection Bill 2016.

The exasperated Speaker in lamenting used himself as an example saying he has always been on time but has to wait for a reasonable number of MPs to be present before he starts proceedings.

In responding to the concerns that the Attorney-General had delayed in appearing before the house, the Speaker retorted, “We are part of the problem. I have to wait to get a certain number of people, a reasonable number, before I enter the chamber.”

Speaker Doe Adjaho advised MPs to report on time saying, “Let us resolve from today that 10 o’clock, we all come here, leave our offices, come here [for proceedings], start the work and finish on time so you can go back to your offices.”
