The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had accused government of inflating the project which was approved by Parliament in October last year.

The 172 million dollar project, comprises the construction of 200 meter Interchange Bridge, a new roundabout, drainage, lighting system, 33-kilometre Amasaman-Kasoa road and and 20-kilometer road in the Ga South municipality and Kasoa.

But speaking at the sod cutting ceremony to commerce work on the project President Mahama said such criticisms will not stop him from bringing development to the people.

“When you are a political quantity surveyor and you look at Kasoa interchange and you say it is too expensive, what are you talking about? You haven’t seen the scope of works, you are haven’t seen the bill of quantities, you haven’t done a survey of building materials around here and you are able to judge that the cost is too expensive.”

President Mahama explained that “the central interchange serves the commuting traffic going from Accra to Central Region and those crossing from Nyanyano to Bawjiase. But there are two other bridges that serve the local people who want to crossover from the southern part of the city to the northern part.”
