A source who wants to remain anonymous in the Yeji area told Citi News accidents on the Volta Lake are largely due to the usage of boats since the pontoon has broken down.

The source explained that for over a week now in Yeji, the pontoon supposed to transport people, goods and passenger vehicles, has not been operating due to a fault, compelling travelers to return to the use of boats.

He said the travelers mostly make the journey to Mankago, a transit point, and then continue to the north specifically Tamale, Bolgatanga and others.
