After joining in the unproven allegations that the newly elected Flagbearer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Ivor Greenstreet, induced delegates to emerge victorious at Saturday’s Congress,\u00a0a third-term\u00a0defeated aspirant, Bright Akwetey, has declared his intention to\u00a0support Mr.\u00a0Greenstreet, going into the\u00a0general elections in November this year.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”4MM2U2EwK7oaqV5xSGL7906Zz6zRV6Tn”]Mr. Akwetey, who was competing with Samia Nkrumah, Ivor Greenstreet and Joseph Agyepong for the CPP flagbearership, came last by managing a paltry 44 votes.<\/p>\n
Regardless of his abysmal performance, he supported Samia Nkrumah’s claims that Mr. Greenstreet bribed delegates to win the election. But Mr. Akwetey in an interview on Eyewitness News<\/strong>\u00a0said he will\u00a0throw his weight behind Greenstreet since the delegates have decided that he should lead the party.<\/p>\n This was after he confessed that he performed poorly because he did not have time to carry out a nationwide campaign unlike the winner, Mr. Greenstreet.<\/p>\n \u201cThe delegates have decided that and I have to go with their decision and I will support Ivor Greenstreet. I have no other option. If I say I belong to this party and I chose to be part of the party from infancy, I will not go anywhere. I will go with the decision of the rank and file of the party and I will support him. I don\u2019t have to be a flagbearer before I contribute what I have to contribute.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI want to support the Flagbearer. Unlike others who are leaving the party, I will remain in the party and organize and get people together because we are too fond of leaving the party and blaming people and causing confusion. We need to learn to unite,” he said.<\/p>\n Way forward<\/strong><\/p>\n He further explained that the party\u2019s performance in past elections have been disastrous because the party did not have enough logistics and resources to support its flagbearer.<\/p>\n \u201cThe last elections, we didn\u2019t support the flagbearer, we gave him no resources, we gave him no logistics. He had to look for resources from elsewhere so he couldn\u2019t make an impact.
