Anti-corruption Crusader, Sydney Casley Hayford, has asked the Attorney General (AG) to boldly prosecute persons indicted in various corruption scandals instead of counselling government when it is actually her job to get things done.

He said this whiles commenting on the leaked report on investigations into the GHC 3.6 million bus branding scandal.

The AG in her report on the scandal asked EOCO to investigate for appropriate corrupt persons involved in the scandal.

[contextly_sidebar id=”FIv7yxc8z78uHMqArEzPLt4vNTXcj60g”]“We therefore recommend that all officers who handled any aspect of these processes and flouted the laid down regulations should be investigated by the Economic Organised Crime unit,”the AG said in her report.

But Sydney Casley Hayford in reaction to the AG’s request posited that it is wrong for her to order EOCO or any other agency to prosecute persons indicted in the scandal since she was specifically appointed to carry out that responsibility.

Casley Hayford said the AG is just shirking her responsibilities by asking other agencies and individuals to take up that task.

“Who is she appealing to? Who is she recommending to? This is her job, she is suppose to be prosecuting… she controls EOCO. ..Who is she recommending to, the office of the President? I am saying to Marrieta Brew Oppong that she is running away from her responsibilities. Her job is to prosecute; it is not the job of the office of the President to prosecute. She should instruct, not advise. She controls EOCO, she should tell EOCO to give her reports and investigate this thing within a period of time. She has identified all the key ingredients, there is nothing more to do. She should prosecute and make sure everybody there who is liable is charged.”

“The Office of the President asked for her opinion and she has done it and let’s not forget that this [report on bus branding scandal] was written very quickly which clearly shows you that the Attorney General’s department is capable when the need arises of producing a report of this nature and of such quality in a very short period.”
