{"id":185633,"date":"2016-01-29T17:22:42","date_gmt":"2016-01-29T17:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=185633"},"modified":"2016-01-29T17:22:42","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T17:22:42","slug":"ghanaian-language-teachers-unhappy-with-languages-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/01\/ghanaian-language-teachers-unhappy-with-languages-policy\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghanaian language teachers unhappy with languages policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Association of Teachers of Ghanaian Languages has in a resolution passed at a conference, expressed unhappiness with the current language policy on education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe acknowledge the inadequacy of the period for the study of Ghanaian languages at the colleges of education level and advice that the period for Ghanaian language study at the colleges of education should be extended to two years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The association also suggested Ghanaian language should be a key part for the requirement for admission into the colleges of education and also entering requirement into the Tertiary Institutions<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The conference was on the theme: \u201cGhanaian Languages: Key to improvement in Ghana Education System.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The association suggested the need for the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to make the study of Ghanaian languages compulsory at the basic school level \u201cplacing it in the category of Mathematics, Science, and English\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The Ministry of Education should consider the reintroduction of Ghanaian language as a core subject at the senior high school level.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Avea Nsoh, Senior Lecturer at the\u00a0University of Education, Winneba, Department of Gur-Gonja Languages Education, in an address said, \u201cthe goal of appropriate language polices for effective education is worth pursuing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is obvious that the current policies of over \u2013 reliance on exoglossic [non-indigenous languages used as official language are failing individuals, their communities and their countries in Africa, he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Source: GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Association of Teachers of Ghanaian Languages has in a resolution passed at a conference, expressed unhappiness with the current language policy on education. \u201cWe acknowledge the inadequacy of the period for the study of Ghanaian languages at the colleges of education level and advice that the period for Ghanaian language study at the colleges [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":14,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[2,11],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Ghanaian language teachers unhappy with languages policy - Citi 97.3 FM - Relevant Radio.
