The Ministry of Education has given the Ghana Education Service the approval to advertise vacancies for teachers for\u00a0all second-cycle institutions as well as basic schools across the country.<\/p>\n
This was revealed by the President of Conference of the National Regional Directors of Education(CONRED) Alhaji Mohammed Haroon.<\/p>\n
Head teachers across the country have been appealing to government to lift the embargo placed on public sector employment since according to them a shortage in teaching staff is hampering academic performance in schools.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”uKThngYnRzLIATK6bgPbzScq90vsw2UO”]Alhaji Haroon was responding to a major concern raised by the headmistress of Navrongo Senior High School Mrs. Francisca\u00a0 Yizura\u00a0\u00a0 at this year’s Home coming of NABIA, (Old students of NAVASCO) about the shortage of teachers in the school.<\/p>\n
But the National president of CONRED said \u00a0government has asked head teachers to declare vacancies ahead of recruitment.<\/p>\n
“Right now all directors, all heads of senior high schools have been asked to declare vacancies in various subject areas and even in basic schools\u00a0 so that we can see the vacancies that exist at all the levels and in the various schedules. We have also declared vacancies for cooks, watchmen and non-teaching staff.<\/p>\n
He added that “we\u00a0are collating the vacancies that are available by second week of February to the end of February for onward submission to the Ministry of Education so that the ministry can get clearance from the Ministry of Finance in order to give quota for the recruitment of teachers’ to go on and that is what we are all doing now.”<\/p>\n
He said the recruitment will enhance teaching and learning across the country and also raise the standards of performance at both the second-cycle and the basic school levels.”<\/p>\n
This move will contribute to a reduction of the teeming unemployed youth in the country.<\/p>\n
