The Vice President\u00a0of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Karbonu, has blamed the inefficiencies in the power sector on lack of innovation on the part of the managers of the sector.<\/p>\n
In December 2015, PURC announced an increase in utility tariffs, with a 59.2 percent increase for electricity and 67.2 percent for water but distribution of power still remains a problem for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).<\/p>\n

Commenting on the problems with the ECG on Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong> news analysis programme, The<\/strong> Big Issue<\/strong>, Angel Karbonu expressed frustration at the numerous challenges befalling the power sector despite the highly qualified individuals sitting in management.<\/p>\n \u201cWhy should I queue to buy units that you [ECG] need to make money as an organization?\u201d he asked in exasperation.<\/p>\n “What is the problem with our intellectuals that they don\u2019t think out of the box? It looks as if there more certificates we have, the more we become incapacitated to think.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr Karbonu also said there was no justification for government\u2019s decision to implement a one-off tariff increment system the way it happened instead of a staggered payment system which would generally mean the payment of different amounts in different intervals over a specified period.<\/p>\n \u201cWhatever justification anyone gives to it… the reality is that people woke up one morning and they realised that they are paying more electricity bills and more water bills,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Mr Karbonu added, \u201cyes we agree that we will need to generate revenue.
