<\/p>\nTomato has in the third week of January recorded a 15 percent drop in its prices.<\/p>\n
The average price of a medium size tomato tin is currently being sold at the market at GHc9.90.<\/p>\n
\u00a0This was followed by Cowpea, Millet and Yam.<\/p>\n
They dropped by 3 percent each to close the week at GHc 7.50, 4.80 and GHc4.40 per \u201colonka and \u201cmedium size tuber\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n
Checks by Esoko Ghana revealed that cassava and rice (local) also followed with just a percentage point loss each to close the week at GHc 5.20 and GHc7.50 per \u201c3-4 tubers and olonka\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n
Esoko Ghana attributed the relatively loss in price of tomatoes to due to the fact that in some areas there are still large volumes of the local ones.<\/p>\n
It also discovered that the tomato prices reduced because of the short shelf life of the commodity which compel traders to sometimes reduce the price so they can sell to balance their losses.<\/p>\n
Soya beans also gained 5 percent to close the week at GHc 5.80 per olunka.<\/p>\n
Cassava (Gari) followed with 3 percent gain to close the week at GHc 4.70 per \u201c3-4 tubers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rice (imported \u2013unclesam) also gained by a percentage point to close the week at GHc 29.30 per \u201c1 small bag (5kg).\u201d<\/p>\n
The price for an \u201colonka\u201d of maize on the various markets remained the same.<\/p>\n
A \u201cmedium size tomato tin\u201d full of fresh tomatoes lost 38 percent in Takoradi\u00a0 to close the week at GHS 13.50 with Bawku\u00a0 losing 25 percent to close at GHS 8.00 and also with Accra and Kumasi dropping 23 and 3 percent to close the week at GHS 15.00 and GHS 9.00 respectively .<\/p>\n
The commodity however made gains in Techiman, it gained 44 percent to close the week at GHS 10.00. In the other markets, the price remained the same.<\/p>\n
