{"id":183371,"date":"2016-01-20T17:55:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-20T17:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=183371"},"modified":"2016-01-20T17:55:00","modified_gmt":"2016-01-20T17:55:00","slug":"speaker-cant-resign-until-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/01\/speaker-cant-resign-until-mp\/","title":{"rendered":"Speaker can\u2019t resign until \u2026 -MP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Member of Parliament for North Dayi George Loh has downplayed calls for the Speaker to resign following the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling which declared as unlawful, his refusal to take the presidential oath on different occasions.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker of Parliament failed \u00a0to swear the oath on two consecutive occasions in the absence of President John Mahama and the Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;sV1AIJEXWEB5cpAgPlF6aGEuyFsJADwe&#8221;]One of the applicants in the Supreme Court case, Professor Kwaku Asare petitioned Parliament and the presidency to force the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho to resign, as the consequence of his actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe presidential oath that you violated on the aforementioned dates requires that that you submit yourself to the laws of the Republic of Ghana and suffer the penalty for the violation (see Second Schedule of the Constitution, 1992, Presidential Oath of Office; \u201cI further (solemnly swear) (solemnly affirm) that should I at any time break this oath of office I shall submit myself to the laws of the Republic of Ghana and suffer the penalty for it.\u201d),\u201dthe petition filed by the aspirant said.<\/p>\n<p>But in an interview with Citi News, the Member of Parliament\u2019s Legal and Constitutional Affairs said even the Supreme Court cannot ask the Speaker to resign over the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody from outside can tell the Speaker to resign or not.
