The Akwatia Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region, says the necessary arrangements have been put in place for the party\u2019s primary to go ahead tomorrow, Tuesday, January 19, 2016.<\/p>\n
The primary is being\u00a0contested by the incumbent MP, Baba Jamal and a businessman, Mr. Basil Ahiable.<\/p>\n
The primary\u00a0in the Akwatia constituency was\u00a0put on hold for security reasons following advice from the national security.<\/p>\n
The Constituency Chairman, Moro Aware, told Citi News\u00a0the voters’ register is ready but added that they are unsure of the number of people expected to vote.<\/p>\n
According to him, they cannot confirm the number because of the additions and omissions made\u00a0to the register.<\/p>\n
Mr. Aware says\u00a0they are awaiting \u00a0for that details to know\u00a0the definite number of registered voters.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are awaiting the outcome by close of the day because we don\u2019t know how many people are voting on that day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Aware also said there would\u00a0be a strong police presence to provide adequate security.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can confirm to you\u00a0that\u00a0the Police Commander here and his men are on the ground preparing themselves\u2026 no violence or mischief will happen here,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a Tamale High Court has granted an indefinite injunction on the NDC primary in the Brunkprugu Constituency in the Northern Region.<\/p>\n
This follows a petition by the disqualified NDC parliamentary aspirant and former Member of Parliament for the area, Nanburi Derrick, against the primary until his disqualification is\u00a0overturned.<\/p>\n
The injunction means the NDC cannot hold primary in the Constituency until the court decides otherwise.\u00a0The Bunkpurugu Constituency remains the only constituency in the Northern Region that is yet to conduct its primary.<\/p>\n
