The taxi driver who used his car to prevent the two armed robbers involved in the Cantonments robbery incident from escaping is to be given a new car by the Management of Koala for his brave efforts.<\/p>\n
The vehicle was heavily damaged after the driver rammed into the fleeing robbers who were on a \u00a0motorbike and pushed them to a drain.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong>, the Marketing Manager for Koala, Christabel Beeko said the company was grateful for the driver\u2019s timely intervention that saved Lydia\u2019s life.<\/p>\n \u201cWe thank him so much and management has decided to reward him with a car…we hope that at least that can compensate all his bravery. Lydia\u00a0 Horsu is a long term staff of Koala Supermarket and it is disheartening to see a colleague injured in such a manner. On behalf of management and staff, we wish Lydia a speedy recovery.<\/p>\n Management\u00a0 is ready to support her treatment, compensate her and reinstate her once she has recovered fully.<\/p>\n Below is an explanation of the incident.<\/p>\n On Saturday\u00a0 9th\u00a0 January 2016, one of our assistant administrators\u00a0 Lydia Horsu was assigned to run routine checks on our Osu and Cantonment shops. This assessment of shops\u00a0 is a routine for administrators of the supermarket; they are required to visit the three shops regularly to interact with managers and staff and to collect receipts for reconciliation. This routine shop assessment in no way involves collection of money and its deposit to the bank.<\/p>\n Ideally, administrators\u00a0 are assigned company vehicles to help with such shop checks however on this occasion, Lydia\u2019s assigned vehicle was unavailable and she was inclined to go with a regular cab whose cost is shouldered by Koala Supermarket.<\/p>\n On that fateful Saturday, Lydia visited the Osu branch for her the assessment and continued to the\u00a0 Cantonment branch. When she was done at Cantonments, she decided to walk down to the roundabout by the American embassy to pick a taxi before returning to her office at Airport.\u00a0 On her way to the roundabout, she was attacked by three motorists near the American embassy. She was asked for her bag which contained her money and was shot twice in the leg.\u00a0 A random taxi driver came to her aid, running over two of her assailants leading to their arrest. Lydia is currently on admission and is responding to treatment.<\/p>\n Koala Supermarket would like to state clearly, that its employees are never sent to the bank with plastic bags to deposit money in the manner described on Social Media. The supermarket employs unique and safe mechanism which to the best of our abilities does not put the lives of our employees at risk.<\/p>\n Management is grateful to the heroic taxi driver, who risked his life to help Lydia and to stop her assailants from inflicting further harm.
