The upward adjustment in the prices of petroleum products which took effect from Monday January 4,\u00a0is causing\u00a0<\/span>confusion between motorists and pump attendants in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.<\/p>\n With the latest increase of between 18 to 27 percent occasioned by the passage of the Energy Sector Levy (ESL) by Parliament last month, a gallon of petrol is now GHC15.59 pesewas calculated at 3.465 liters and a gallon of diesel is GHc14.76 pesewas pegged at 3.281 liters.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”cLjQKD4UzOBFtQmXUatdPgyV7MJz7Ill”]While some fuel stations in Tamale are selling a gallon of petrol for GHc15.59 pesewas, others are selling\u00a0at GHc16.00.<\/p>\n This situation has angered some motorists who verbally and physically assaulted pump attendants over the price differences.<\/p>\n A taxi driver at a Total fuel station could not understand why he got 14.430 liters of petrol at a cost of Gh50.<\/p>\n He felt cheated by the pump attendant who could not explain the changes to the\u00a0him.\u00a0Meanwhile, some consumers of petroleum products, have accused government of being insensitive with the latest hikes.<\/p>\n They argued that the new prices did not commensurate with the current prices of crude on\u00a0the world market, and thus demanded a withdrawal or reduction.<\/p>\n
