Celebrated highlife musician, Amakye Dede, has been transferred from the Osiem Government Hospital in the Eastern Region, where he was receiving treatment after a gory accident on Saturday dawn, to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The “Iron Boy’s” bodyguard, Prince Mensah, 43, has also been moved to the 37 Military Hospital for further treatment.

The two, with severe cuts, were stabilized after a sprinter bus rammed into Amakye Dede’s Toyota Corolla, as they were parked by the roadside waiting to perform at the Paradise spot located at a fuel station.

According to the police at Kyebi, one woman in the sprinter bus who sustained some injuries is also receiving treatment at the Osiem Government Hospital.

The Medical Superintendent of the Osiem Government Hospital, Dr. D.K Yeboah, told Citi News early on that Amakye Dede’s condition had stabilized.

“I was called from the home and when I came he [Amakye Dede] was lying in bed with blood all over. He had facial lacerations which were dressed. I quickly examined him and at that moment, there wasn’t any life-threatening condition and we’ve been able to stabilize him. He is doing very well and by the grace of God he managed to take his breakfast this morning. There are some minor scars on his face but not even a single of the lacerations on his face was stitched because they didn’t need stitching” he noted.

The accident at Nsutam on the Anyinam-Bunso road also left an unnamed female on-board the sprinter bus injured.

Prince Yeboah, an eyewitness at the accident scene who spoke to Citi News, blamed a taxi driver for the crash.

According to him, the taxi driver, who entered the main road from the fuel station, crossed the speeding oncoming sprinter bus, forcing it [Sprinter] to veer off the road and hitting into Amakye Dede’s car.

Citi News’ Eastern Regional Correspondent, Appiah Kubi, reports that some influential personalities including the CEO of Despite Group of Companies, Osei Kwame, and Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah among others, visited the highlife star at the Osiem Government Hospital before his transfer to Korle-Bu.

57 year old Amakye Dede, with nearly twenty albums to his credit, is largely applauded for sustaining authentic highlife music over the years, and is loved by many.
