{"id":17817,"date":"2014-05-12T05:25:19","date_gmt":"2014-05-12T05:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=17817"},"modified":"2014-05-12T07:01:48","modified_gmt":"2014-05-12T07:01:48","slug":"npp-to-boycott-national-economic-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/05\/npp-to-boycott-national-economic-forum\/","title":{"rendered":"NPP to boycott National Economic Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong> has picked up signals that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is likely to boycott the upcoming National Economic Forum.<\/p>\n<p>As part of austerity measures to fix the nation\u2019s ailing economy, government has set Tuesday May 13, 2014 for the first ever National Economic Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The event is aimed at building a comprehensive blueprint to accelerate the nation\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>Political parties, civil society and other interested institutions have been invited to partake in the event.<\/p>\n<p>However, Citi News is reliably informed that the NPP might boycott the event.<\/p>\n<p>A source close to the party\u2019s national leadership told Citi News on grounds of anonymity that the party intended organizing a news conference on Monday May 12, 2014 to announce the boycott.<\/p>\n<p>The source also disclosed that the NPP was only invited last Friday, so limited a time that they could adequately prepare for the Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The source further said the NPP intercepted a document prepared by government and already sent to the International Monetary Fund for bailout ahead of the National Economic Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The maiden National Economic Forum which is scheduled to take place in Akosombo is on the theme, &#8220;Changing the Narrative: building a National Consensus for Economic and Soci al Transformation&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Participants at the event which will last for four days are expected to offer constructive ideas needed to transform the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur was the first proponent of the National Economic Forum.<\/p>\n<p>As leader of government\u2019s economic management team, he realized the need to organize a bipartisan debate on how to fix the nation\u2019s downtrodden economy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Citi News has picked up signals that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is likely to boycott the upcoming National Economic Forum.
