The Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP) opened nominations on Monday for the Party\u2019s Presidential and parliamentary Primaries which have been slated for 2016.<\/p>\n

The two week exercise is intended to give interested members the opportunity to contest the party\u2019s primaries.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”MIwbTmanCIe3IgMVb69yMObX1ozAEw5i”]National Youth organizer of the party, Ernesto Yeboah, told Citi FM<\/strong> on Monday, it was a strategic decision by the party to open nominations at this time.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresidential aspirants will pay five thousand cedis when they come to pick up forms. After that, they will be required to pay a filing fee of one hundred thousand Ghana cedis and an extra fifty-thousand cedis as development levy.\u00a0For parliamentary, when you are picking the forms you will pay five hundred cedis and then pay two thousand cedis when you eventually file your nomination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Presidential aspirants for the two biggest political parties in the country namely the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, paid GHc55,000 and GHc85,000 each respectively.<\/p>\n

Ernesto Yeboah explained that the leadership of the CPP, decided to peg the amount up because they wanted to gather all the needed resources \u00a0for an effective campaign in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to invest in our own party. No one can do that for us so we all have to help. That is why we are asking that these amounts\u00a0 be paid\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, some youth of the party, on Monday, picked\u00a0 up forms for\u00a0 their former\u00a0 National Chairman, Samia Nkrumah to contest in the party\u2019s presidential primary.<\/p>\n

Others including\u00a0the 2012 Presidential candidate, Dr Michael Abu Sakara Foster, Lawyer Bright Akwetey \u00a0are expected to pick up their nominations forms.<\/p>\n
