{"id":176560,"date":"2015-12-23T14:32:01","date_gmt":"2015-12-23T14:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=176560"},"modified":"2015-12-23T14:33:11","modified_gmt":"2015-12-23T14:33:11","slug":"striking-railway-workers-to-be-paid-before-christmas-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/12\/striking-railway-workers-to-be-paid-before-christmas-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Striking railway workers to be paid before Christmas &#8211;  Gov&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Deputy Transport Minister, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, says government is working around the clock to pay striking railway workers, assuring they will be paid before\u00a0Christmas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Railway Workers Union last week announced the withdrawal of passenger services from Accra to Tema and Accra to Nsawam, following government&#8217;s failure to pay their three-months salary arrears.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The General Secretary of the Railway Workers Union, Godwill Ntarmah, also demanded the\u00a0immediate dissolution of board of directors of the company, and an assurance their salaries will be paid before end of December 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The union also demanded salary adjustments for the\u00a0workers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;3pL2aqNVE2aGQ57abjXbBJUwOUOvvnwy&#8221;]After an extensive meeting with the Chief Director at the Transport Ministry, on Wednesday December 22,\u00a0government has resolved to pay the workers&#8217; salaries, according to Deputy Transport Minister,\u00a0Joyce Bawa Mogtari.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is however unclear if all other\u00a0demands by the union would\u00a0be met.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mrs. Joyce Bawa Mogtari revealed to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> the Ministry of Transport had been working to address the grievances of the striking workers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201c<\/strong>The Ministry of Transport has been working to resolve the impasse with the railway workers union.
