The Asamankese Magistrate Court in the West Akyem Municipality has sentenced one Ofosu Agyei\u00a0to 24 months imprisonment with hard labour for posing as an officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).<\/p>\n
Ofosu Agyei, 35, was also convicted for swindling some residents in Osenase near Asamankese after he promised to offer them\u00a0ECG\u00a0meters.<\/p>\n
Presenting the facts to the court, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Samuel Tetteh, stated that Ofosu Agyei had swindled five individuals of various amounts\u00a0totaling GHc1,650.00<\/p>\n
The swindled individuals were Oduro Moses (GHc 570), Seth Pobi (GHc260), \u00a0Emmanuel Gyan GHc250, Joseph Asiama (GHc430) and Savior Ametepe (GHc140).<\/p>\n
The prosecution revealed that after several attempts by the complainants to get in touch with the accused person, Seth Pobi reported the case to \u00a0the main ECG office in Asamankese who in turn reported to the Osenase police.<\/p>\n
Following investigations, the police arrested Ofosu Agyei.\u00a0The police were able to retrieve two electricity meters from the accused person.<\/p>\n
Ofosu Agyei pleaded guilty on all counts and was convicted according to\u00a0his own plea and was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment with hard labour.<\/p>\n
He is also to pay back all the money he collected from the five plaintiffs.<\/p>\n
