{"id":176229,"date":"2015-12-22T17:00:06","date_gmt":"2015-12-22T17:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=176229"},"modified":"2015-12-22T18:01:52","modified_gmt":"2015-12-22T18:01:52","slug":"banning-1st-class-travels-laudable-enforce-it-gii-to-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/12\/banning-1st-class-travels-laudable-enforce-it-gii-to-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"Banning 1st class travels laudable; enforce it \u2013 GII to Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana integrity Initiative (GII) has commended President John Mahama\u2019s directive to ministers to desist from\u00a0embarking on first class travels whiles on official duties.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;7zlOixsjpulqc2EwkItNzGnboNqLsIOl&#8221;]All government ministers who embark on official foreign travels on first class tickets have been directed by the presidency to stop with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p>Government has also directed all its ministers to cut down on foreign travels in a bid to curtail government spending.<\/p>\n<p>The directive was issued in a letter from the office of the President and signed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah on November 16.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Citi News, Programmes Manager at GII, Mary Addah, said although commendable, the presidency must ensure strict compliance of\u00a0the directive.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Addah commended the president\u2019s initiative but felt it had come late saying, \u201cIt is a step in the direction even though it came late.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She further stated that her organisation will monitor to see how the directive is implemented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wait to see that it\u2019s actually being implemented because we have had other promises in the past which have not been implemented or dealt with.\u201d\u00a0Our problem in this country is that, we make a lot of promises without following up on them&#8230; We will be watching out to see if the ministers are travelling economy class,\u201d Mrs Addah added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana integrity Initiative (GII) has commended President John Mahama\u2019s directive to ministers to desist from\u00a0embarking on first class travels whiles on official duties.
