The Junior High School teacher, Phanuel Yaw Ayawli, who petitioned the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) over the \u2018error-ridden\u2019 \u00a0New Integrated Science Textbooks for Junior High Schools, is threatening to embark on a one-man demonstration.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Citi News, he said he is even considering resigning from the Service if the textbooks are not withdrawn from the system.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”BApOTWmYj5k03N6OWSdNnE61nKuV8Osd”]The teacher petitioned the Ministry of Education<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>over a plethora of\u00a0errors in the textbooks which had been used by some public schools for the past three years.<\/p>\n Yaw Ayawli asked the Ministry to withdraw the books not only from the public schools but also from public view in order to save the already struggling education in Ghana.<\/p>\n He also earlier told Citi News<\/strong> the book had a lot of errors and mistakes and not good for consumption.<\/p>\n \u201cThe book is diseased with a lot of errors and mistakes, typographic errors and a whole lot. They are all not wholesome for the consumption of our young ones. That is what they are using all over the country,” he told Citi News.<\/p>\n After months of petitioning the Education Ministry over the issue, Phanuel Ayawli is complaining \u00a0the Ministry of Education has been disrespectful to him since it has not even written to acknowledge receipt of his petition.<\/p>\n “Since I wrote my petition to the Ministry of Education uptill now I have been waiting for their response and nothing of that sort has come through. I am not surprised because most of these people who are saying they are not suppose to respond to what I am saying, their children are not in public schools where they read these kind of books so I am well aware they just want to ignore it.<\/p>\n “After the Christmas festivities, I will take this step further because those people who will be consuming this erroneous information in this book, they are more than those who are privileged as their parents are suppose to spearhead the withdrawal of those books. Possibly I will resign because of this. If it becomes necessary that I should one month demonstration I will do it.”<\/p>\n Meanwhile the Ministry of Education has indicated that publishers may be asked to bear the full cost of printing new textbooks should they be found culpable.<\/p>\n The Deputy Minister of Education, Alex Kyeremeh, told Citi News<\/strong> that, \u201cif it is found out that somebody\u2019s inaction led to this mistake, that person must be brought to book.
