The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Eric Afful has been elected as Member of Parliament for the Amenfi West Constituency in the Western Region.<\/p>\n
Eric Afful polled 15,809 votes representing 52.64 percent\u00a0while his main contender who represented the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Derkye had 13,076 votes representing 43.54 percent.<\/p>\n
The Electoral Commission held a by-election in the area on Tuesday following the death of the NDC MP John Gyatua.<\/p>\n
The election was contested by four political parties comprising the NDC, NPP, PPP and UFP.<\/p>\n
Abraham Kwadwo Buadee, who stood on\u00a0 the ticket of the Progressive People\u2019s Party (PPP) came third polling 1,032 of total valid votes cast representing 3.44 percent and Elvis Adjei, on the United Front Party’s (UFP) ticket had\u00a0only 113 votes representing a 0.38 percent.<\/p>\n
At the end of the elections, 531 total votes were rejected. A total of 62,364 registered voters were expected to cast their votes but less than half \u00a0that number<\/p>\n
