Newly elected National Chairman of the People\u2019s National Convention, (PNC) Bernard Mornah, has told Citi News he will reach out to the party\u2019s 2012 Presidential Candidate, Hassan Ayariga, over his decision to leave the party after his defeat in Saturday\u2019s congress.<\/p>\n
Mr. Ayariga was beaten by Dr. Edward Mahama, a 70 year old medical doctor who returned to the race after leading the party from 1996 to 2008.<\/p>\n
The 2012 Presidential Candidate lost with 426 votes as Dr. Edward Mahama polled 492. Mr. Ayariga reduced the PNC\u2019s votes in the 2012 elections polling just 0.22% of the total votes.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”yodZjepeUeDUZVkZ3J48sAkC3fT6lL8N”]He has since the election announced his decision to leave the party claiming he was unfairly treated ahead of the congress and that PNC doesn\u2019t deserve him.<\/p>\n
But Mr. Monah says this is not the way to go.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday if he loses an election, I\u2019m sure that it is just to say that the people want an alternative to his leadership. It is not to say that he is not one of us. I believe strongly that PNC is in Hassan Ayariga and Hassan Ayariga is PNC. Indeed his blood is PNC\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mornah assured he will work to resolve issues arising out of the party\u2019s congress, to ensure unity going into the 2016 elections.<\/p>\n
Describing Mr Ayariga as \u201ca true member of our family\u201d who has \u201cgone up to become a flagbearer of our party\u201d, he said it was prudent the party tapped into his experience for next year\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo matter what he might have said, losing elections is bitter. But as the National Chairman, I will work with my senior brother. If there are any issues that he feels uncomfortable with, he will bring it to our attention\u201d, Mr Mornah said, adding, \u201cin my interaction with him, we will get to know what is it he thinks was an unfair treatment meted out to him and at the end of the day we should resolve it\u201d.<\/p>\n
Mr. Bernard Mornah however believes Dr. Edward Mahama; the party\u2019s newly elected flagbearer, has enough experience to cause a stir in next year\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile some members of the PNC has described Mr. Ayariga\u2019s exit from the party as a blessing in disguise.<\/p>\n
Some members have accused Mr. Ayariga of being in bed with the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n
Majority of them are also of the view that Mr. Ayariga\u2019s posture badly affected the party\u2019s image
