The leadership of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), could be cited for contempt for organizing a congress despite a pending court case that sought to stop them.

David Apasara, who was hoping to be elected as National Chairman, is threatening to file contempt charges against the party.

Mr. Apasara had gone to court to seek an interlocutory injunction to stop the PNC from holding last Saturday’s congress.

David Apasara argued that Mornah’s action breaches the PNC’s constitution hence must be disqualified.

But the PNC defied the court action and held the congress last Saturday despite receiving the summons six days before the congress.

Speaking to Citi News, Apasara argued that the party “has broken the law” by organizing the congress adding that “we will surely get our lawyers to file contempt of court charges against the leadership of the party.

He said “we will ask the court to punish them for being lawless. You cannot run a party and you expect to grow that party when you don’t go by the law.”

Meanwhile, Bernard Mornah emerged winner at the congress polling 701 votes to become PNC Chairman while David Apasara had 152 votes.

Another chairman aspirant, Abubakari Sadiq, also polled just 50 votes.
