In what appears to be a replay of the posture by the suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, the party’s 2nd Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe has said he still holds his position in the party despite being suspended.

According to him, unless proper legal procedures are followed, the National Executive Committee’s decision cannot hold.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Nqr0BIAeaM2wwteUdvI7AEh1LiUb6xvV”]Mr. Crabbe, who is perceived as an ally to Paul Afoko, was suspended indefinitely together with General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

Mr. Crabbe has been accused of disrespecting party decisions in support of suspended National Chairman, Paul Afoko. He also stands accused for refusing to appear before the committee after several invitations.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana on Thursday, Sammy Crabbe argued that the party erred in taking the decision against him.

“Nobody has suspended me; there is a process for suspending an elected officer. A National Council is a National Council, when it is legally and properly constituted, as per our constitution, it is only the National Chairman who can convene a National Council so when he is in jurisdiction nobody else can,” Mr. Crabbe added.

He insisted that “if you have a First Vice Chairman convening a NEC meeting or a National Council meeting then that is not an acceptable meeting.”

According to Sammy Crabbe, the meeting which suspended him “was not a NEC meeting and that is not a National Council meeting” because it was chaired by the acting National Chairman.

“There is nothing in our constitution called acting chairman when the chairman is in jurisdiction. We have a law in the party and we must follow this law. One of the reasons why I’m very serious and I’m really hammering on this is because there has been a coup, our constitution is being overthrown and people are just not getting to the bottom of it and thinking that as they hear people shout loudest, then it means they are right. They are subverting it. There is a coup within the system and we must stop it for the sake of posterity,” he added.
