Redevelopment of the worn out Accra Tema Motorway will start in the first quarter of 2016,\u00a0according to the Minister of Roads and Highways, Inusah Fuseini.<\/p>\n
The Tamale Central MP says the redevelopment will be part of the ongoing expansion works at the Tema Port.<\/p>\n
His comments come on the back of growing public frustration\u00a0over the deteriorating state of the motorway built by the Nkrumah government several years ago.<\/p>\n
Mr. Fuseini said\u00a0discussions around the redevelopment have been largely restricted to the kind of design that \u201cwould best suit the situation\u201d hence the delay\u00a0in the progress of the redevelopment process.<\/p>\n
He stated that focus on the design was important because \u201cit would inform the amount of money that the contractor would likely invest into construction of the road and also lead us to determine the concession period to give to the concessionaire. \u201c<\/p>\n
Mr. Fuseini expressed hope that discussion on the matter would end by the close of this year, so that by the first quarter of next year, work would begin in earnest on the motorway.<\/p>\n
