A study by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Ghana and the Ghana Health Service, has revealed that 1,352 new cases of fistula\u00a0are recorded annually in the country.<\/p>\n

An obstetric fistula is a hole between\u00a0the vagina and rectum or bladder that is caused by prolonged obstructed\u00a0labour, thereby leaving a woman with no control over urination or\u00a0defecation or both.<\/p>\n
