Pope Francis left Kenya for Uganda, after concluding his three-day visit to the country where he delivered hard-hitting messages targeting local leaders.<\/p>\n
They ranged from nepotism, land grabbing and corruption which he described as a clear path to death.<\/p>\n
In his final speech to the youth and leaders who attended the Kasarani stadium meeting, the Pope reminded Kenyans, that it is everyone\u2019s responsibility to fight corruption at all levels.<\/p>\n
He landed in Uganda Friday on the second leg of a landmark trip to Africa, with huge crowds, choirs and dancers celebrating as he touched down.<\/p>\n
Francis arrived in Uganda after three days in neighbouring Kenya, where vast crowds turned out to an open air mass, and where the pontiff lashed out at corruption and wealthy minorities who hoard resources at the expense of the poor.<\/p>\n
Veteran Ugandan leader Yoweri Museveni, widely expected to be reelected next year for his third decade in power, has said he is \u201chonoured to host Pope Francis,\u201d saying the pontiff\u2019s \u201ccompassion for the poor and his frankness of spirit is an encouragement for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Large crowds gathered in Entebbe \u2014 some 30 kilometres (20 miles) south of the capital Kampala \u2014 where Francis will meet Museveni at the presidential palace later on Friday.<\/p>\n
Crowds gathered along the roads, four deep in some places, while street lights were draped with black, yellow and red banners, the colours of the national flag.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is my third pope but it can\u2019t be boring, we are blessed!\u201d said 55-year-old Agnes Mubuya, sitting on a plastic chair on the pavement outside the printer where she works in Entebbe.<\/p>\n
Wearing a yellow dress \u2014 her Sunday best \u2014 she had a laminated badge reading \u201cWelcome Pope Francis to Uganda\u201d pinned to the chest.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d like him to talk about corruption, which is too much in Uganda. And we hope he can bring political change. He must talk to Museveni: if a pope can stand down why not a president?\u201d<\/p>\n
Police and soldiers, all armed with assault rifles or batons, lined the road and military pickups raced up and down the street.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is my third pope,\u201d said 60-year old Henry Mutambo, a Protestant, dressed in slacks and a loose, untucked shirt, who stood waiting on the grass verge close to the presidential palace.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis latest pope, Francis, he cares for all the people, the whole universe, regardless of political or religious affiliation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Security has been ratcheted up for the visit over fears Islamist rebels from Al-Qaeda\u2019s East Africa branch, the Shabaab, could use the opportunity to stage attacks.<\/p>\n
But chief of the defence forces Katumba Wamala has said measures are in place and expressed confidence \u201call will go as planned.\u201d<\/p>\n
Francis has shrugged off safety fears, joking that he was \u201cmore worried about the mosquitoes\u201d. He travels to war-torn Central African Republic (CAR) on Sunday<\/p>\n
