A former Deputy Majority Chief Whip in Ghana’s Parliament, Sampson Ahi, has accused the Minority in Parliament of sabotaging government business.

He alleges that the minority, by their actions, are only trying to get back at President John Mahama for accusing them of sleeping on the job.

[contextly_sidebar id=”UyRIwv7APyJ30Ws6ODceL577JUsbjHv8″]A planned debate on the 2016 budget statement could not take place after NPP MPs forced Parliament to adjourn prematurely its sittings without fully accomplishing businesses planned for the day.

In what critics have called brute display of Minority power, many opposition NPP MPs were seen leaving the Parliamentary chamber one after the other, shortly before and after an opposition MP was on his feet, drawing the presiding Speaker’s attention to the apparent lack of quorum in the House.

The adjournment of the House meant a scheduled debate on the 2016 budget set for Wednesday could not happen.

Speaking to Citi News on the development, Sampson Ahi chastised the minority for their actions and blamed them for unnecessarily stalling parliamentary work.

“I saw that this issue is a planned thing. It was just a calculated attempt to thwart government business. I saw more than 20 minority MPs sitting at the coffee shop drinking tea. Some of them sitting down doing nothing and you just realize they were just sneaking out of the chamber one after the other.”

“I saw the Majority Chief Whip asking them to leave the chamber. You cannot do this deliberate thing.”
