{"id":169648,"date":"2015-11-26T06:40:59","date_gmt":"2015-11-26T06:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=169648"},"modified":"2015-11-26T10:07:38","modified_gmt":"2015-11-26T10:07:38","slug":"northern-region-tops-road-crashes-for-first-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/11\/northern-region-tops-road-crashes-for-first-quarter\/","title":{"rendered":"Northern Region tops road crashes for first quarter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Northern Region has recorded the highest cases of road carnage for the first quarter of 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Records show that between January and September, the region recorded 192 road traffic crashes which involved 141 vehicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This resulted in the death of 82 people, whiles 341 were severely injured.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji A.BA Fuseini, brought this to the fore on the occasion of the regional road safety awards held in Tamale.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6387.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-169650 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6387.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6387\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6387.jpg 533w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6387-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He advocated an enforcement regime on road traffic management that will deal with anyone who flouts traffic regulations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Sagnarigu legislator called for enough sensitization on road traffic management especially in Tamale, which has gained notoriety for road indiscipline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini tasked the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), to adopt multifaceted approach to ensure discipline on the roads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He impressed upon the Driver and Vehicular Licensing Authority (DVLA), to fast track the issuance of licenses to legitimate applicants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Deputy Northern Regional Minister bemoaned drunk driving, hence his call on commercial vehicle owners to engage the services of professional drivers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6392.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-169652 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6392.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6392\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6392.jpg 533w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_6392-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He further encouraged commercial vehicle owners to ensure routine vehicular maintenance, and\u00a0appealed to motorists and the general public to exercise maximum care on the roads during the Christmas festive season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Northern Regional Director of the National Road Safety Commission, Alexander Ayatar, recalled that in 2014, the region recorded 154 road traffic crashes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, 250 vehicles were involved and that 88 people died in Tamale, Bole, Sawla, Savelugu, Yendi and Walewale.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He raised alarm over the increase in the use of tricycles (Motor King) as commercial vehicles for carrying passengers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alex Ayatar revealed that the &#8216;Motor King&#8217;
