Ghana Gas has backtracked on attacks it unleashed on the Ministry of Power for blaming them for the current load shedding the country is experiencing.

The company had rejected claims suggesting, it is the cause of the issue because it shut down its Atuabo facility.

[contextly_sidebar id=”fZCTPZYRleuG7h0bKQAbp7X15uUkigCG”]According to the Ghana Gas, it shut down its facility at Atuabo on the insistence of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to allow the African Middle East Investment (AMERI) Power Plant, to be connected to the supply of gas from Ghana Gas.

A statement signed by CEO of Ghana Gas, Dr. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey said the company due to the works ongoing on the AMERI plant, “ceased processing and supply of Gas to the Aboadze Thermal Plant on 23rd November 2015.”

He said the move “is to protect the integrity of the ongoing works and the facilities of both VRA and Ghana Gas and also to ensure the safety of VRA and Ghana Gas engineers working on the project.”

“Ghana Gas, as part of its collaborative effort with VRA and to expedite the tie-in works, supplied all the piping, valves and fittings for the works at Aboadze. In addition, Ghana Gas and VRA engineers are jointly working around the clock to complete the works on time. It is expected that when the tie-in works are completed, AMERI plant will generate about 250MW of power. This will bring the total production of power generated at the Aboadze plant to about 850MW,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Ghana Gas says it is confident “in the efforts of the Ministry of Power and Government to end the current challenges, and is committed to continuing with its close collaboration with VRA and other relevant agencies to realize this goal.”
