A defeated aspirant in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) primaries in the Madina constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has backtracked on previous threat to reject the results.

Lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu had earlier questioned the results saying it has been compromised.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Sosu said his decision to accept the results is in the best “interest of the unity of the party [NDC].”

“We have just chosen the path of peace, it is a choice we have made and it is in the interest of the NDC. Don’t forget that in the just past election, I won election in Damfa, Oyarifa, Pantang and Nkwantanang and these are strong holds of NDC. All the other parts of the Madina are swing during general elections.”

He explained that “if we are going to stand by our position and litigate…I believe that ahead of 2016, it can be very damaging to our party in Madina.”

Lawyer Sosu added that the NDC still remains “the vehicle through which we want to serve the people. When we endanger and destroy that vehicle within Madina what then is left for us? So I believe that it is in the interest of all of us and all the aspirants and all the NDC members in Madina that we keep calm and move ahead without any further disturbances.”

He further congratulated Alhaji Sorogho for emerging winner of the polls.
