National Coordinator of the National Youth Authority (NYA) Ras Mubarak has emphatically won the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary primary.

With the provisional results collated, he secured 4,176 votes representing 36% against his main contender, Alhaji Imoro Yakubu Kakpagu who polled 3,108 votes representing 27%.

The other contenders Dr. Hamza Adam secured 2,724 representing 24%, Amadu Kahad secured 211 votes representing 2%, Abdallah Baba Ibrahim secured 1,288 votes representing 12% respectively.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9BOhCLT6CxeRdTNfNnIiYvsjE0cVz30P”]A total of 14,300 eligible voters were expected to exercise their franchise at 22 polling stations.

Turnout was very high at the polling stations except that some of the constituents lacked voter education.

This resulted in 11,177 Yes for the Presidential and 356 No, whiles 205 rejected ballots were recorded for the Parliamentary and 164 rejected for the Presidential.

Confusion over the credibility of the voters’ register necessitated postponement of the primaries to Sunday.

Ras Mubarak who was tipped to win the primary earlier told Citi News he would emerge victorious.

He promised to mobilize NDC members in the constituency for victory in 2016.

Ras Mubarak also assured the youth of creating jobs and boosting agriculture which is the people’s economic mainstay.

He reiterated his call for peaceful co-existence after the primaries and called his contenders and their supporters to join the campaign trail.

This in his estimation will enable him wrestle the seat from the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) incumbent Member of Parliament, Amadu Moses Yahaya.

Ras Mubarak once contested in the NDC’s primary at Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra Region, but could not make it against the incumbent MP, compelling him to cross the carpet to Kumbungu in the Northern Region.
