A police station at Bakaano, a suburb of Cape Coast in the Central Region, has been attacked by some youth in the area.

The youth who are supposedly drug peddlers and users, wearing masks, were reacting to the arrest of their colleagues, one of whom died later in police cells.

They thus attacked the station and assaulted an officer leaving him unconscious, and also vandalized police vehicles at the station.

[contextly_sidebar id=”DSLYMfk0S8QYwOyeMjNkHJrA7TCcWZxP”]Confirming the incident to Citi News, the Central Regional Police commander, DCOP Ransford Ninson, said the attacks were linked to the “Father Christmas Operation” carried out on Thursday November 19, during which 37 people were arrested for various offenses.

According to him, one of the suspects arrested on the day of the operation fell ill in police custody and was taken to hospital for medical care but died after a few hours.

This he says angered the youth who mobilized and attacked the police station.
