The Greater Accra Regional Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is warning party members who have parliamentary ambitions in the region to suspend campaigning till the party opens nominations.

The party says it has received numerous reports of aspirants engaging in illegal campaigning even before nominations open.

Speaking to Citi News, the Vice Chairman of the party in the Greater Accra Region, Albert Okyere said the party will be forced to sanction such aspirants if the warning is not heeded to.

According to him, the party does not “want anything to be a source of confusion or whatsoever at any level and at anytime in the party…”

Mr. Okyere indicated it has come to the notice of party officials that “people have issued out campaign materials and are going round. We have a few items from some constituencies and we think if we don’t halt it now, it will cause confusion.”

The party is feverishly preparing for the 2016 general election after it successfully elected its national executives last month.

The new executives are expected to steer the affairs of the party and ensure victory for them in 2016.

After the party’s national delegates’ congress in Tamale, attention quickly turned towards the flagbearer slot of the party.

Some NPP stalwarts have openly made their intentions known to contest the flagbeareship position of the party.

It is therefore, not surprising that some party members are also busily engaging in underground campaigning in a bid to represent their constituencies at the Parliamentary level elections.
