Tamale central is the pivot of all the 31 constituencies in the Northern Region. It was formerly known as Gukpegu-Sabonjida constituency, and it contains some of the densely populated areas within the Tamale Metropolis.

These include Aboabo, Zogebli, Tishigu, Changli, Dagbandab-ba fong and Sabonjida.

Tamale’s two biggest Aboabo and old markets, are located in the Tamale central constituency.

The Tamale central mosque, the Regional Police Command, VRA-NEDco and other vital installations are found there.

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has enjoyed political monopoly over the constituency since Ghana’s return to constitutional rule in 1992.

The incumbent NDC MP, Inusah Fuseini, went to Parliament in 2006 through a by-election.

This was necessitated by Dr. Wayo Seini’s resignation from Parliament on the ticket of the NDC to rejoin his mother party the NPP.

Three other parliamentary aspirants including Engineer Seidu Ibrahim and Adam Alhassan, a banker, are attempting to truncate Inusah Fuseini’s fourth term parliamentary bid.

The Roads and Highways Minister, Inusah Fuseini, appears to be unperturbed about the contest.

The camp of Engineer Seidu Ibrahim’s slogan is ‘shei koo shei’ to wit Inusah Fuseini must go.

Whereas some delegates are advocating the need for Inusah Fuseini to be retained to complete his unfinished transformational agenda, others disagree.

Ghana’s democracy will soon be substituted with what has become known as money-cracy because cash flow and booty sharing during elections is gaining notoriety.

What this trend portends is that, the decision to get one elected into Parliament or the Presidency, is no more dependent on merit but one ones ability to dole out cash.
