The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has resumed the printing of drivers\u2019 licenses across the country.<\/p>\n
It has so far distributed 40,000 cards to the various district offices.\u00a0Outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DVLA, Rudolph Beckley, said the authority would by the end of the week, issue out the backlog of 25,000 cards to applicants.<\/p>\n
He called on new drivers who applied for license between January last year to September this year, to contact their local DVLA offices for their cards.<\/p>\n
The DVLA suspended printing license cards last year, due to the breakdown of printing equipment at the Authority\u2019s offices.<\/p>\n
As a result, applicants were issued with temporary licenses printed on sheets of paper, a situation which frustrated many drivers.<\/p>\n
Mr. Beckley, while apologizing for the inconvenience caused, said the authority had put systems in place in its various offices throughout the country for easy identification and collection of cards.<\/p>\n
He said the new cards bore some security features and had the bio-data of applicants, certificates of verification, among others.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor some security reasons, we cannot disclose what those security features are, but the cards have been designed with many security features and capture things like bio data of applicants\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
He appealed to Ghanaians not to drive to the DVLA offices for the cards to create congestion there, adding that, \u201c everyone can go to\u00a0his or her district at a convenient time for the card;\u00a0there is no need to rush for it\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Of the first batch, 1,256 cards would go to Nkwakaw; 27,707 to Weija; 142 to Dunkwa; 18,555 to the 37 area office in Accra; Goaso, 144; Akim Oda, 1,763; Sunyani, 1,150; Tema 8,187, Kumasi, 4,323; Denu , 957 and Tarkwa, 127.<\/p>\n
The outgoing CEO said the authority would receive the remaining cards on Wednesday for distribution.<\/p>\n
