Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, has cut the sod for the commencement of the Korle Lagoon defence wall project.<\/p>\n
He called on Ghanaians to show interest in the project and protect the lagoon by ensuring that refuse is not thrown into it, to prevent the re-occurrence of the June 3 flood and fire disasters, which led to the loss of lives.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”EcFnfkJMJGa5IFoHAbrMJTXz4SW8t2E5″]Dr Vanderpuije said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) needed over GHC 4 million to construct a wall around the lagoon to protect it.<\/p>\n
He expressed gratitude to the Turkish government for donating 100,000 dollars towards the project.<\/p>\n
Dr Vanderpuije entreated the contractor to complete the work within the stipulated period, and mentioned a number of development projects the AMA had undertaken under the government’s Better Ghana Agenda.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder the Better Ghana Agenda, 105 Millennium Schools are under construction, a sewage system from Dansoman to Korle Bu is ongoing and a similar one in Legon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Madam Nesrin Bayazit, Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, who joined the MCE in the ground breaking ceremony, said her government would continue supporting the AMA in its development initiatives.<\/p>\n
