A new Police post has been established on the premises of Ghana’s Parliament house.

The facility, which is yet to be fully resourced, is sited near the western entrance of the Parliament House.

[contextly_sidebar id=”9D4xDwrqaCxQvCWrDUU6J3hvfyhoAaUV”]According to Kate Addo, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs of Parliament, the facility is to help beef up security at Ghana’s law making house.

She cited recent picketing and attacks on Parliament by some demonstrators as some of the reasons for the establishment of the Police post.

“There’s been situations where some persons have entered Parliament and had physically assaulted some staff,” she noted.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, Kate Addo said “the Speaker requested for us to have a Police station at the West end of Parliament, which is the area around the Kofi Annan ICT centre.”

“The reason is that, when you put so many people together at a place, you usually would need a proper protection. So we requested for it and the president also agreed,” she added.

Kate Addo said they are currently in consultation with the leadership of the Ghana Police service to elevate the facility into a district Police station.

“I think it’s less costly to avoid a problem than to wait for the problem to occur before we try to find solutions,” she added.
