The National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) , Kofi Adams, is convinced various political parties will reject calls by the former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Otchere Darko, to boycott the Electoral Commission’s forum on proposals for a new voters’ register.

Otchere Darko has asked the various political parties to boycott the upcoming forum, saying the intended programme will only favour the incumbent NDC since some members of the five-member panel are biased.

[contextly_sidebar id=”0xCmOHEfB9cH55jHJhaWksZmXia3nkRu”]But Kofi Adams, on Eyewitness News said the party will not accept Gabby’s recommendation since they [the parties] are wiser.

“My first reaction is that the political parties are far wiser than Gabby and so they will take a very wise decision because they know that they will always have to work with the Electoral Commission and with no other body so the political parties will not follow or will not take any ill-advice from a group of persons who cannot even manage their party,” a confident Kofi Adams stated.

He believes the political parties will take their own decisions, knowing very well that the Electoral Commission will provide a platform for the resolution of their issues.

According to Mr. Otchere Darko, some members of the EC’s five-member panel have already taken entrenched positions on the matter.

Responding to those claims, Adams said “When Prof. VCRAC Crabbe spoke on these issues, did he not cite other ways this can be done?. The NPP’s argument has always been that when anybody posited how this can be done, they said no it should be their way…”

“Didn’t the NPP find it necessary to visit former Presidents to solicit their views? Both former Presidents they were speaking to solicit their views and support are they not partisan? Is President Rawlings not the Founder of the NDC?Didn’t they find it necessary to go to him because they thought he will express an opinion? Didn’t they go to President Kufuor and come back quoting him?” he queried.

He challenged the NPP to seek redress using the appropriate procedures if it claims the current register is bloated and not credible.

Kofi Adams’ comments come hours after the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho, defended the panel set up by the Electoral Commission and said the forum is the best platform to address the concerns about the voters’ register.
