The decision by the National Vetting Committee of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to disqualify an aspirant in the Northern Region, Mr. Amuzu Ngmagnag, has angered his supporters, who have threatened to burn down party assets if the committee fails to reverse its decision.<\/p>\n
Mr. Amuzu was disqualified from contesting the incumbent MP; Hon. Joseph Bukari Ninkpe, after a petition was filed against him prior to the vetting.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”bMo7aNrRMsY9GrwRsIToev5Y9pV5F6De”]At a press conference on Friday, the supporters called on the committee to reverse its decision to disqualify their candidate or face their wrath.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the press conference, one of the supporters of Amuzu, who refused to disclose his name, said \u201cWe heard that our candidate has been disqualified from contesting the primaries. To this point, we the NDC youth jointly issue this petition to the NDC to reconsider the decision taken\u201d.<\/p>\n
The group says the \u201cmanner in which some of the regional executives treated the issue irrevocably causes us to believe that what happened was done without caution.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group argued that the committee\u2019s action has the tendency to expose the party to external attacks and therefore asked the committee to consider their calls for Mr. Amuzu to be cleared for the contest.<\/p>\n
The NDC goes to the polls on November 7 to elect presidential and parliamentary candidates.<\/p>\n
