Some journalists in the Western Region, who covered President John Mahama’s\u00a0activity\u00a0on Monday, got involved in an accident leaving one in a critical condition.<\/p>\n
The accident occurred on the road between Beahu and Akowen in the Ahanta West District at about 7:00pm, when the team was returning after covering the President’s\u00a0commissioning of a\u00a0new community day Senior High School.<\/p>\n
One of the vehicles in the convoy is said to have crashed into the press van from behind.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”WFYwJ3WAwC8O49qiAF4JraRrQuvHfn1s”]Although the journalists sustained minor injuries, one of them, Obrempong Yaw Ampofo, who is Citi FM\u2019s Western Regional Correspondent, has been hospitalized.<\/p>\n
There are no physical bruises on him but the impact of the crash appears to have affected him internally leaving him\u00a0unconscious.<\/p>\n
Doctors at the Kwesimintsim Polyclinic in Takoradi say they are monitoring his situation closely.\u00a0Deputy Education Minister in charge of Tertiary Education Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa visited Obrempong at the Hospital.<\/p>\n
The vehicle carrying the journalists was provided to them by the Western Regional Communications branch of the NDC.<\/p>\n
The accident comes barely two months after members of the presidential press corps were also involved in an accident on the Afienya-Doryumu road in the Greater Accra Region, \u00a0leaving Samuel Nuamah of the Ghanaian Times Newspaper dead, and several others injured.<\/p>\n
