During the vetting of aspirants in the Greater Accra region today [Thursday], five aspirants were disqualified including\u00a0Leeford Nii Kpako Quarshie (Klottey Korle Constituency) Tony Afenyo (Ashaiman Constituency), Michael Kwetey Tetteh (Ningo Prampra), Isaac Awuku (Dome Abra Obom) and Opolu William Kwesi Ahamadzi (Amasama).<\/p>\n
Vetting of two aspirants (Lawyer George Enu and Bill Heglo) from the Tema West Constituency was also put on hold over questionable documents.<\/p>\n
One other person, Adam Abdul Nasser was not present for the vetting<\/p>\n
A total of 108 aspirants are to be vetted in the two day exercise ahead of the NDC\u2019s November 7 primaries.<\/p>\n
Retain us – Incumbent MPs plead<\/strong><\/p>\n In a related development, some incumbent NDC MPs in the Greater Accra Region have called on the party to give them the nod to serve in the nation\u2019s law making house again.<\/p>\n According to them, they have to continue with some projects they started.<\/p>\n They made the call in an interview with Citi News<\/strong> while taking turns at the party’s vetting in Accra.<\/p>\n The MP for Madina, Alhaji Amadu Sorogho explained that he has to \u201cwater seeds of development\u201d he had sown hence must be retained.<\/p>\n \u201cYou don\u2019t plant the seed today and reap it today, you have to water it and make sure that it grows and bears fruit. All those things that I have done in the constituency, some of them have started, others are yet to start and some are at various stages of completion,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Mr. Sorogho highlighted some projects he had initiated saying, \u201cI am constructing a recovery ward at Rawlings circle clinic. In two weeks\u2019 time we are cutting the sod. I am also doing an ICT library at Nkwantanaang Cluster of schools. Every school compound you go, you will see new buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n Also speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, the MP for Ningo-Prampram, E.T. Mensah who is facing stiff opposition from presidential aide, Sam George said he is not intimidated by his contenders.<\/p>\n \u201c<\/strong>ET Mensah can never be intimidated, I respect, I\u2019m not arrogant but nobody can intimidate me. What we are practicing is parliamentary democracy. \u00a0There are no time limits, unless you are defeated by the opposite party, you go as long as you can provided you feel you are strong enough,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, some of the new aspirants told Citi News<\/strong> that the long serving MPs must step down for the young ones.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
