The immediate past Chairperson of the Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah has described as primitive the Electoral Commission\u2019s law that requires all certified and functioning political parties to own offices in every constituency.<\/p>\n
The CPP has in recent times come under pressure from the EC for allegedly flouting the regulation.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”8ntD2sKQTZ5p7apZLWQFScd5JfDcCi1z”]Despite her position on the law, Samia Nkrumah, who is seeking to be the CPP\u2019s Presidential Candidate for the 2016 polls, has announced the party is working to construct a three-storey edifice to serve as its permanent headquarters in addition to the 80 already existing party offices across the country.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the swearing in of new party executives at the party\u2019s head office at Asylum in Accra, she said the new office complex will help ensure the party is not unduly punished by the Electoral Commission (EC).<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to announce that plans are far advanced and we\u2019ve discussed with our incoming national and leadership to acquire a three-storey edifice to serve as our permanent party headquarters. This will be an addition to 80 offices across the country. And this initiative will ensure that, that primitive law about to be invoked against the CPP does not materialize. I have every confidence that the EC will cooperate with us\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the new Chairman of the party, Prof. Edmund Delle, has called on party members to be disciplined and united since that remains vital for the CPP\u2019s return to power after over 50 years.<\/p>\n
The one-time CPP Chairman, who staged a surprise comeback after bowing out, says his leadership will now focus on strengthening grassroot participation.<\/p>\n
\u201cContrary to the era where you stand on top and give orders below, I will be a different Chairman. I want to go direct to the people, be with them, learn from them and then we work together to the top\u2026It will be a grassroot type of leadership and that has been the strength of the CPP which we are losing a bit but we want to recapture that spirit\u201d.
