The Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions (COHHETI), has appealed to\u00a0government to relieve Health Training Institutions (HTIs) of what it describes as \u201cenormous budgetary constraints\u201d.<\/p>\n
According to the conference, their institutions, for some time now, have not been allocated any \u201cimmediate needs\u201d budget, a situation, they said is\u00a0putting a strain on their meagre resources.<\/p>\n
President of COHHETI, Sophia Agyei- Aye, made the appeal when she addressed the 10th Annual General Meeting of the conference on the theme: \u201cSanitation for all: the role of Health Training Institutions\u201d, in Cape Coast.<\/p>\n
The five- day conference, would among others, create the platform for general discussions on matters affecting the administration \u00a0and organization of HTIs, update members on new policies and information as well as bargain for appropriate conditions of service for members.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Agyei-Aye who doubles as the Principal of the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training School also expressed worry over congestion at health facilities for clinical studies due to the influx of HTIs especially nursing and midwifery schools. According to her, the congestion is overstretching the health facilities.<\/p>\n
She further appealed to the Ministry of Health to synchronize the opening of new nursing and midwifery schools with the establishment of new clinics to promote effective teaching and learning since nursing and midwifery were hands- on professions.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Agyei-Aye commended government for its commitment towards the provision of needed resources and support for the training of quality health professionals but urged it to do more.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile the Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah has called for greater collaboration between the district assemblies and the various health institutions to deal with peculiar sanitation challenges in their respective areas.<\/p>\n
